High Deductible Plan F is identical to Medigap Plan F once the plan deductible is met. In 2023, the deductible for High Deductible Plan F is $2,483. After the deductible is met, High Deductible Plan F pays for virtually all Medicare-approved expenses. While meeting the plan deductible, Original Medicare continues to pay its share (generally 80% of medical expenses). 

After reaching the $2,490 deductible, High Deductible Plan F covers:

  • Medicare Part B deductible: $226 annual deductible in 2023.

  • Hospitalization: Part A coinsurance plus coverage for 365 additional days after Medicare benefits end.

  • Medical Expenses: plan pays Part B deductible and balance of Medicare-approved expenses after Original Medicare pays 80%. 

  • Blood: First 3 pints of blood each year.

  • Hospice: Part A coinsurance.

  • Skilled Nursing Facility Care: up to 100 days of skilled nursing facility care.

  • Part B Excess Charges: 100% of Part B excess charges.

  • Foreign Travel Medical Services: after a $250 deductible during the first 60 days, the plan pays 80% of the remainder of charges up to a lifetime maximum of $50,000.

Medicare Supplement High Deductible Plan F is the least expensive Medigap plan with regard to monthly premiums. Once the plan's $2,483 (in 2023) deductible is met, the plan is identical to Plan F. This means there are virtually no out-of-pocket medical expenses after the deductible is met.
